"Gold plated" gets used loosely, so here's what it actually means on a piece of Cielessa jewelry — no marketing gloss, just the facts.
24K gold plating is a thin layer of gold applied over a base metal, in our case copper. It's what gives a piece that warm, rich color at a price point that solid gold can't touch. It is not the same as gold-filled jewelry, where a much thicker layer of gold is mechanically bonded to the base, or solid gold, where the piece is gold all the way through.
What that means in practice: the plating will soften gradually with everyday wear. Water, perfume, lotion, and the natural oils on your skin all speed that along. It's not a flaw or a defect — it's simply how this finish behaves, on any brand's gold-plated jewelry, not just ours.
We'd rather tell you this upfront than have you find out the hard way. A few small habits make a real difference: put jewelry on last, take it off before water touches your skin, and store each piece separately. We cover all of this in detail in our Jewelry Care Guide, including how skin chemistry varies from person to person and what that means for sensitive skin.
If you want to understand more about how each piece is made, from sketch to finished form, that's covered on Our Craft.
We chose this finish deliberately — it lets us make jewelry that feels considered, without the price tag of solid gold. We just think you deserve to know exactly what you're wearing.
